Why Specialized Layouts Matter for Kitchens

Every room has a different purpose, and your lighting should reflect that. While the math of spacing (Ceiling Height / 2) remains a good baseline, adjusting for the specific needs of a kitchen is crucial.

For kitchens, you often want to err on the side of more light (higher density) to ensure safety while chopping vegetables. Consider placing lights directly over the edge of countertops to avoid casting your own shadow on your workspace.

General Spacing Rules Apply

Regardless of the room, the core principles of our calculator still stand:

  • Avoid the Corners: Keep lights at least 2-3 feet away from corners to avoid wasting light.
  • Wall Offset: Aim for the distance from the wall to be half the distance between lights.
  • Ceiling Height: Higher ceilings need tighter spacing or brighter bulbs to reach the floor effectively.
