Why Specialized Layouts Matter for Bathrooms

Every room has a different purpose, and your lighting should reflect that. While the math of spacing (Ceiling Height / 2) remains a good baseline, adjusting for the specific needs of a bathroom is crucial.

Safety First: Ensure any fixture installed above a shower or tub is Wet Rated. For vanity areas, recessed lights alone can cast shadows under the eyes; consider pairing them with wall sconces for the best grooming light.

General Spacing Rules Apply

Regardless of the room, the core principles of our calculator still stand:

  • Avoid the Corners: Keep lights at least 2-3 feet away from corners to avoid wasting light.
  • Wall Offset: Aim for the distance from the wall to be half the distance between lights.
  • Ceiling Height: Higher ceilings need tighter spacing or brighter bulbs to reach the floor effectively.
